3 things Thursday

1. Ran 3 miles this morning at the gym.  This week so far I ran every day, 1 outside and 3 on the treadmill.  All 3 days inside I got side pain.  It sucks and it hurts.  I have a hard time with those.  I was not going fast, I don't know why I get them more inside.  I tried changing my breathing and slowing down, pushing on it.drinking  little sip of water..nothing works.

2. Every morning I take Will to school and I wait until the teacher shows up to leave.  Kids have to line up in the school yard and wait for their teacher.  A few parents stay and wait; mostly moms.  Mostly much younger then me moms.   This morning they were talking about getting older and botox (I live in Southern California remember).  I was just listening and then one of them says "Oh YOU, you are older, do you use it?" Geez...first thanks..and second I do have a name it is not YOU.  So I told them that no I don't use botox.  One of them says: "Maybe you should give it a try, you look like you must have been pretty when you were younger!" AOUCH....  This made me laugh mostly.  Who says things like that?

3.  Now that I have 2 half marathons planned I need to find the perfect fuel for me.  For my first half that was a problem.  I tried many different kinds nothing works for me.  The only thing I can tolerate is plain GU but even that is not really great for my GI track.  I am now looking for these:
This looks like the perfect solution for me.  No gel.  Problem is nobody carries them.  I went everywhere.  On their website they have a list of stores who are supposed to be selling these products but so far no luck.  Do you guys use these? Do you buy online only?

I hope you find your perfect fuel!! I am going to experiment with gu/gel for long training runs...

My favorite is Blackberry Gu, sorry it doesn't work for you.
You have such a great attitude about those thoughtless moms on the playground. How can adults talk like that?

People amaze me sometimes. You should challenge them to an old fashioned run. See how far your 'old lady' legs can out run them ;)

Wow, just wow, and good for you biting your tongue, I would have gone off on them, the nerve of some people

Oh. My. Gosh. What kind of LADY says such things?? (Obviously not a lady of any type) Wow! I am on the older end of the parents for my youngest (I am 41 and she is 3, most of the parents of her friends are in their late 20's). Anyhow, maybe they THINK I am an old lady, but never say it, ha ha. What kills me about what they said, its like they thought they were being complimentary, ha ha. As for fuel, I am not running longer than 5 miles so far, so no need- will need some soon though and they scare me! Have you tried real food? Like a potato or cookie or something? I know some runners do that. Dean K eats a pizza :D

What?! Who would say such a thing? Talk about no filter...good grief. Ugggh, I dislike fake. So much fake fake fake. Good for you for not doing Botox. On a recent visit to SoCal for visit my brother, I just stopped and looked around and realized things didn't look like I'm used to...I was a little taken aback with all the "perfect" or striving to be perfect people running on the popular beach strip. I had never seen so many tan, big boobed, tight asses in my life. So much pressure. As for fuel, I need to learn about this more...I don't fuel up enough.

I'm SHOCKED about the other moms talking to you like this. So rude and totally ignorant!
How is your stomach with gummi bears? I can not handle gels either, but gummi bears work for me:)

I'm from a small town close by Munich! :) How do you feel drinking Gatorade or Powerade? Would that work? I also heard some people mix the gel in their water and then "drink" the gel. Maybe that would work for you?!

I have found that pineapple roctane gu doesn't hurt my stomach. The product shown looks interesting! And I agree with everyone else good for you for taking the RUDE comments in stride:)

I say you're pretty when you're older too. If you really want to try that fuel, buy it online if you have to.

I use First Endurance EFS LS. I order it online. Once you have a few 7 oz flasks like above, you can order it in "bulk" and refill the flasks. Or, if you have a Fuel Belt, you can just order it in bulk and use your Fuel Belt flasks. I love the stuff (maybe I suggested it before).

I don't understand what goes through some peoples' heads! I'd love the weather in So Cal, but I don't think I could deal with the craziness.

I think you look great - then again I'm old. I don't mind Gu (I used for the first time during my half). I like Chocolate mint.

So freakin' rude… I would have had a hard time not saying a lil' something back ;-) you are a class act! Good luck with the fueling issue :)
