Quebec City post #6

Today is our last day in Quebec.  The vacations are almost over.  I am sad to leave but at the same time I am ready to be back in my home and get back to a routine for the kids.  They are showing signs of being a bit tired and same for me.  We had a great time here. I saw my family and my friends and being in this town is wonderful.  I really love my hometown.

I went for a great 4 miles run yesterday.  It was not pain free but it was better.  It was on the most perfect running path by the St-Laurent river.  Just Beautiful.  Runners here are so lucky to get to run there all summer long.  In the winter it is not doable though.

These were given by the USA  in honor of Quebec's 400th anniversary that was in 2008.

I went to see the PT this morning.  He put me on the treadmill to evaluate my gait.
He filmed me while I was running.  With my shoes and also barefoot.
He filmed my feet and also my hips (lifting my shirt to see better...using the waist band of my shorts as reference.)

He said that I am a "good" runner.  Posture good, no over pronation and I thought I did do that.
But there is a huge but.
I heel strike big time.  EVEN BAREFOOT.   I saw it, it is pretty bad.
He said that most "heel striker" will naturally correct that while running barefoot but I don't.
He told me to run with shorter steps.
He said to do jump rope exercises  before my runs at fast pace to prep for the run.
He said to do core work.
AND to get minimalist shoes........YIKES.
I am not sold  on that one.  I told him about my Pure Flow experience and how bad it went.
He said first to work on all the things he suggested and then see about getting other shoes.
So I got some work to do!

I wish I had a PT around here that would be so detailed...I've never had one video and really analyze like that...its cool! I would try what he says it sounds like he is really good!

I can't believe your little guy lost three teeth!!

I'm glad the running pain was less at least. Here's to pain-free the next time. I counted my steps per minute on my run this morning and I need to shorten my stride too. Sigh. It's always something, isn't it?

Gorgeous pics!!! I would love to come run there. I bet the weather is nice too! It's so hot here. Over 100 degrees every day for the last 2 weeks with no end in site!

Hope you get your running figured out. It's too bad you didn't like the Brooks, but I guess everyone is different. I still really love mine.

Hm. I'd get some info about moving to a different running style. You totally have to build up to it or you'll hurt yourself more.

I'm glad you enjoyed your time back at home!

I am jealous of where you get to run! It's beautiful there! I am glad you had a good time but it will feel good to be home again and see your baby (dog)! Welcome Home!

Beautiful pics! No wonder you love it. It made me happy to hear you happy, though, to be back "home" as you return back. Maybe you are a little bit Californian after all? ; )

If you want some help with the transition to mid foot, just email me. I did it but can tell you it's a long, patience requiring road. However, it's the best move I ever made and that was after 14 yrs. of running.

I'm a pretty bad heel striker as well and found it really helpful to count my steps. How many steps does your left (or right) foot do in 1 minute? Multiply by 2 and the closer you are to 180 the better. To get in the right rhythm you can also download music with 180 bpm (beats per minute) and try to make a step with each beat. It helped me a lot.
