So today I only had 30 min or so for a quick run...it is the last day before Spring Break and kids are getting out early plus I went to volunteer in the classrooms.
I went for 3 miles. Just that. I put on my PURE FLOW.
Like I said on my last post, I have a hard time adjusting to these shoes. It feels weird running in them and also slow. At mile 1.5 I tripped but I did not fall. I am sure that made the drivers who saw me laugh. It's OK. For the last mile I tried to pick the pace to be where I usually am for a short run like that...in the lower 9:xx.
I have worked hard in the last months t0 get to a faster pace and with these shoes I feel like I am regressing. It is frustrating.
Anyway back to the run...last mile I decide to go faster (not a sprint just faster)
at 2.98 miles...
4 steps from my car...
I took a nasty fall.
I did not trip on anything, no rock, no crack, no piece of wood, nothing.
I BLAME the freaking SHOES.
Results
- 2 bloody knees.
- 1 pair of broken compression capri pants
- 1 broken glove
- 2 sore hands. Lucky I had gloves on otherwise my hands would be much worst.
- 1 damaged shoe
This sucks
I am not loving those shoes right now and I am thinking this was a big mistake and a waste of money. BOOOO HOOOO.
The Madness is here!
First Day: 14 out of 15 for me.

Ouch! These shoes didn't work for me either. I like the heel-to-toe drop (4mm) but they were otherwise very clunky and too cushy. I use the Connects and they work beautifully for me.
Yikes! I hope you had plenty of band-aids and neosporin handy!!!
Yikes, looks like I'd ditch the shoes. Maybe they are too big or something in the toe which created the tripping issue? Either way, I'd probably just retire those from running as well!
Ouch ouch ouch ouch! That looks terrible! Ditch the shoes and don't look back. I hope you get feeling better and quickly!
Ouch!! I have heard this from others about these shoes also. Take em back.
OH NO!! That sucks big time! Hope you feel better & get some new shoes woman, you deserve them anyways :)
Ouch! Those definitely don't seem to be the right shoe for you.
Looking forward to hearing about your potential marathon plans. !
Oh no!!!! What a horrible fall, I understand your frustration with your shoes...they are not for everybody. Personally, I have a pair of Pure Flows and I LOVE them! Have even run my last 16 & 20 milers with them and they felt great. But I like cushy and how they feel seems to fit my foot type. I have divorced shoes before (Mizuno flashback...oh, the horror!) and felt better for it. Do what seems right for you...and your poor knees :(
Oh, and I am excited to here any 26.2 plans :)
OUCH and BOOOOO!! I have fallen a few times and it is NEVER, ever fun.
Definitely the shoes fault!!
You could probably recoup a little money by selling on Ebay - just let them know how many miles you ran in them and show the pics of the scuffs - someone who loves them will buy them if they seem like a good deal with just a little wear and tear.
I hope you heal quickly! Can't wait to hear about 26.2
Let's talk 26.2!
Bummer they aren't working for you, I love them, i did a speedy 4 in them tonight and never once tripped. I think you should take the plunge and sign up for a marathon! DO IT! I did :)
Ouch....I hope you are ok! Falls can be scary.
Ow! I totally feel for you. I'm still sore from my last sidewalk fall and have a big scar (but that's ok bc I can attribute it to mountain biking).
Sorry you didn't love the shoes. I've been wearing the same blister-producing Nikes since Nov. 2010 because I didn't have the $ to replace them. Well...chose to spend the money in other directions. Anyway, I hope you figure out the right pair for you!
So sorry to hear about your fall!! I tried on Brooks and just did NOT like them or how they felt...I've been sticking with Asics so far, but I know everyone is different. Good luck and hope you get a replacement soon!
that sucks :( are they minimalist-esq shoes??? I find I suck running in minimal shoes but I'm taking the plunge
I hate having skinned knees....it makes me feel dirty ;)
Yes, I'd leave the shoes behind. Just like you don't marry everyone you date (thank God), not every pair of shoes is going to work. I hope those wounds heal up fast!
O man. I think I'd be giving those shoes the shoes (that means getting rid of them ;-) ) if I'd had similar experiences to yours.
Oh no, I'm so sorry! If those were my capri pants, I would sew them up to make them compression shorts. Can you return the shoes?
Bummer - I like my PureFlows, so maybe one of the other models would have been a better choice?
Ouch! So sorry! I bought a new pair of Saucony Mirage this week. I've been running in Asics GT 2170s so this is a huge difference. I made the mistake of thinking I could just jump on the treadmill and do my speed work. So wrong! I was certain I'd be returning them. Today I made a huge adjustment, slowed WAY down and relaxed with quarter mile intervals. I think I can work them in, slowly. My concern too is that I've been getting faster and more efficient and this felt like a huge step back...
it's funny...shoes are shoes...and no matter what other people think about them, they have to fit your foot and feel good...bottom line!!
we are all made so different...but we all want so badly at times to "wear" what is being advertised and what works for great runners. go with what fits you...you are a great runner!! Life is too short for bloody knees ;)
I think you personally know immediately if a shoe isn't going to work out. I've tried the Pure Flow on and my feet love the inside feel but I don't know how I'd do on the road with them. Can you sell them in a resale shop and get some money back? I buy all my first time in a model shoes now from our local running store and they have a 14 day return policy, even if you ran with them. I learned my lesson a while back on a shoe change binge, ha ha. I need a way to recoup lost money! Plus, figuring out new shoes is so tricky, I think. Sorry to read about your fall - hope the injuries heal fast!
Aargh!! So sorry to hear about the fall!!
Aaand sorry about Duke! :(
I don't have the pure flow ones but I did buy new Brooks sneakers - results: fall in a 5k race and then another fall breaking my ankles in 2 places. I'm afraid to wear them again.
Wow, sorry to hear about your fall, that looks painful! I'm with Ms Zippy, I wouldn't give up on the Brooks shoes, maybe try the Pureconnects? Eventually I want to try on a pair of the Brooks Pure shoes to see how I like them. I might try to get a pair of them or Newtons.
And about what I wrote about Duke - I kid. lol I know it must have been rough to watch them lose. When Stanford was good in the mid 90s to mid 2000s they would usually win first round, and then lose 2nd round to a 7 or 8 seed. So I know what it feels like to be a higher seeded team and blow it.
As for Idol, I do like Philip a lot, we'll see how it goes!
and your new blog header looks awesome!
Please, do the marathon!!!!
Sorry about your fall, I hope you don't feel pain while running.
ooooh ouch!! sorry about this. You can send the shoes to me...what size are you? Love my flows. Poor knees.
Oh no! Hope your knees heal quickly. I'd be so bummed about the capris :( One time I slipped on ice (just walking to my car) and put a hole in my brand new dress pants, I was so mad!
@Tammi-
I recently got the Saucony Mirage II while still using my Asics 2160s for long runs. I eased into the Mirages, at first a 3 milers then for speed work and shorter tempo runs, but have worn them for up to 8 miles. I do find them comfortable but I don't know if I like them any better than the 21xx line.
