2012 plans yes, goals kind of, resoltions no thanks...

Happy New Year to all of you!My wish for you is to be healthy and happy.

I read a lot of your posts in the last few days, several 2011 recaps and 2012 goals//resolutions posts.  It's fun to read the recap and see all that we all have done this year in our running lives. Lots of miles there!!!

So 2012...here we are.  I used to hate changing year..I don't know why, used to make me sad as in one year closer to the end...I know pretty dark and depressing..this was before I got married and had kids.   Now I just see it as a new number.  I don't "start over" comes January 1st.  I continue what I did good and hopefully the stuff I sucked at I already changed or let go of long before 2011 became 2012.

I don't do resolutions.
Goals...yes but my most important ones are not just for the year.
My #1 goal is to raise kind honest good guys.  When December 31, 2012 comes it will still be #1 on my list.

While reading your blogs yesterday, this was my favorite line of all the posts I read"

"Wishing you all the best in your running quests and may we all PR as human beings in 2012"

PR as human beings. I love that Don't you?
I want to PR as a human being and as a mom.

So who wrote that? Shawn! Check his blog here.  He is Canadian like me and he is a hero..I am not kidding he is. Go read here.

For running I do have goals.
Last year my goal was to run a half marathon and not die.
I did both. 5 times.
I wanted to run 1000 miles but I thought I could never reach that.  I did and went 228 over.

So for 2012:
  • I want to figure out a good way to fuel on LR and half marathons.  That is not an easy thing to do for me.  I have yet to find something that works and prevents me from collapsing at the end of a half marathon.
  • I want to run more than 1228 miles.
  • I want to run a 10k under 1 hour. (my PR is 1 hour flat)
  • I want to run a half marathon under 2:20. (my PR is 2:24:05)
  • I want to stay healthy.
  • I want to do better at Long Beach.
Races 2012:
In red are the ones I signed up for, in blue the not sure yet

January 15: 13.1 Los Angeles Half Marathon
February 5: Surf City Half Marathon.  Final race of the Beach Cities Challenge for me!
March 24: Susan G Komen Race for the cure 5K
April 7: Hollywood Half Marathon
May: Dont know yet....looking for something maybe: Cinco de Mayo 10k /May 6
June 2: Fontana Half Marathon
July 4th: Claremont 4th of July Freedom 5K
July 28th: City of Cypress 10k or San Francisco Half Marathon
August 4th: Pride of the Valley 5K
September: 9-11 Tunnel to Towers 5K
October 7: Long Beach Half Marathon
October ?: Race for Rescues 10K
November 11: Mission Inn 10k
December 12: Holiday Half Marathon
For now that's all I got.

We took the kids to see The festival of lights at the Mission Inn in Riverside. 3.5 millions lights!  It is fantastic!  Here are some pictures:

They also have an outdoor ice rink!

And Reindeer!!!

Great goals and I loved the pictures!

You have a full slate of halfs! wow. I might do the Hollywood one myself. Looks like such fun.

Yes! NYC would be a great first marathon :)

I am leaning towards doing the Hollywood one for sure. I will figure it out this week and pull the trigger.

Great goals for 2012 - I'm sure you'll reach them!!

I love that - PR as human beings. We can always do better.

So far, we'll be at a few of the same races - Surf City and Long beach. I'm going to do OC too for my Beach City challenge. Your write ups of the Tunnel to Tower and the Holiday Half make me want to do them as well. I've got 2 other halfs, so 5 might be enough for the year. I will have to see how I hold up.

Good luck with the fueling. Maybe a discussion with a dietitian with a sports specialty would help? I have a professor who is one if you'd like the info.

Happy New Year!

That looks more like 3.6 MM lights to me :)

C'mon, start thinking about a Marathon. Your yearly mileage from your 2011 posts suggests you have it in ya!

Let me know if you decide to do PCRF; I'd love to have you on Team Gabby!

Those are some cool lights.

Look at that race list...it's going to be another stellar year of racing for you, I can tell. :) I have to disagree with Patrick, though...get your half marathon drinking/fueling figured out before moving on to marathon

Long Beach would be awesome, but if I hit CA at all this year it'll be in June. Maybe once I only have one kid to support my travel budget will be bigger. :) I hope so...I'd sure like to meet you for real.

I am a total Christmas lights junkie... I LOVE those pictures! I should go there :)

Looks like you all had fun :)

Caroline, you are so far totally PRing as a human being.

Wishing you an amazing 2012 :)

Happy happy 2012. I love this idea of PR-ing as a human.
..except I am still sticking to PB-ing as a human. :)

You are such an inspiration! I haven't figured out my races this year, but have registered for my first 1/2 in May. I am up to 11 miles (although slow...completed it in 2:12) but at least I am doing it! On 12/31/10, I vowed to run my first 5K and ran in several plus a 10K. On 12/31/11, I vowed to run my first 1/2. Who knows, on 12/31/12, I might vow to run a full marathon! I, too, hope to PR as a human being (thanks Shawn). Have a wonderful new year! I will continue to follow you!

BEST goals. Raise good honest guys. This is so top of my list! Of course, I have a couple of gals too:)

This is the first year I'm not doing a goals post...All of your running goals, challenging enough but yet realistic and attainable!! You are a wise womam!

Wow, you have a huge race schedule! Looks awesome! I have only one race-Boston for now! Your pictures of the lights are awesome! I would have loved to take my kids to something like that!

Wow, what a great year you had! It looks like we will be doing many of the same races next year. I have only thought about the first half of the year and not the second half. Happy New Year!

The best goal I've read yet: "PR as a human being and as a mom." Love it.

Love your goals - I think for me being patient will bring me closer to a PR as a human being and as a mom:)

Happy New year!

I really enjoy Shawn's blog! And I love the PR statement. You've come so far with your running and I have no doubt that 2012 will bring more of the same. And based on what I see on your blog, you and your husband are raising to great young men! All the best this year. Have a great week.
