The Waiting Game

I got 4 more days of waiting before finding out if I will get to run Hood to Coast.  I am a very patient person but for this kind of waiting not so much.   It is kind of like waiting to know if you got the job or if you got accepted to College.

I got one more week of waiting before I go see Bruce Springsteen!!!  That I am good at waiting for because I know it will happen!

2 weeks ago I had an ultrasound for my thyroid.  I heard nothing from my Dr.  I thought it meant for sure that the results were normal.  They don't call you when it is normal. I think it is crap that they don't but that's just me.  Today I decided to call my Dr just to be sure...listening to the little voice inside that says...just call it will take a minute.   So I called.  I asked if they had my results.  "Hold please."  They hung up on me.  GREAT!  I call again...and they tell me that the Dr said that I will need to go see an endocrinologist!  WHAT?  When were they going to call me to let me know?  I asked why and does this mean my results are NOT normal?  "No they are not normal, your thyroid is enlarged but you have no tumors".  WTH?  I am so mad.  I cannot believe that I am the one who had to call the office to find out about this.  So now I have to go see a specialist, that is always fun.  Start over with all the medical history.  Find a good Dr.  WAIT  to get an appointment.  I don't know about where you live, but here to get an appt with a specialist can take weeks.   That kind of waiting I am also not good at because now I need answers and I want to fix what is not working.

I now have a huge migraine.  Of course I Googled "enlarged thyroid" and hypothyroid..it is not the end of the world but it does explain some stuff.

Running:

Guess who is back?  The freaking HEAT.   I hate it with a passion.
For me it means that "racing" season is coming to an end.  I still participate in races during the summer but I don't chase PRs.  The only exception is my next half marathon.  It is on June 2nd and I want to PR there.  This will be my last half until the cooler temperatures come back in the fall.  The heat means I need to carry water for every run.  I don't always like to wear my belt..when it gets hot it gets to be really annoying.  So I decided to buy a handheld bottle and give it a try.  I figured it would be better than to carry a plastic water bottle like I do now.
I went to Dicks and got the blue one on the picture.  I was not 100% convinced.  I went to Sports Authority and I got the pink one.

Tag on them is the same

But there are not the same.
See: Phone does not fit in the blue one

Phone does fit in the pink one

Means also Waffle Stinger would fit with or without the phone during a half marathon if I don't feel like wearing the belt.  So the blue one is going back to Dicks tomorrow.

I got a 1ok Sunday.  I wanted to go for PR.  It may not happend.  I am sick.   Sinus are still plugged and I have a nasty sore throat that I cannot get rid of.   To add to this the forecast is SUNNY and 90 degrees.  Seriously...this sucks.

How bizarre that the pockets are different sizes!

And I'm rooting for you to get in the relay. Good luck!

They must send you to Oregon. But, I warn you, it's hot here in August.

Yuck in the doctor. I hope the next steps go smoothly and the outcome is good.

Fingers crossed for you for HTC! So fun!!

I've been thinking about getting a handheld. Have you used them before? Any advice?

I'm not looking forward to this heat either. I'm running the Run Through Redlands half and it will be hot and hilly. Not a great combination. It wouldn't be so bad if the race didn't start at 7:30.

I've forgotten to blog all about the Run Through Redlands but I've got something coming out on it Friday :)

Good luck on HTC! The competition looks fierce.

I'm not great with waiting. Good to know on the handhelds. The one I have must have the small pocket. I used it earlier in the week and somehow jammed my phone in there but it definitely didn't fit well, may need to upgrade!

Everything crossed that a spot on the relay will be yours. All the best with the doc BS.
I have that same handheld in yellow. Pocket is too small. :(

I say go to Oregon this weeekend and just run the H2C route, get it out of your system. You'll probably need both handhelds.

First of all, I hope you feel better and that all of your health concerns work out for you. Secondly, Nuun better pick you because you so deserve it!! GOOD LUCK!!

I am SO hoping you get picked by Hood to Coast! And so jealous about Bruce!!! :)

That is ridiculous and awful that the doctor's office didn't call you. I hope you are able to get in to a specialist sooner than later and get everything straightened out. Hugs!!!

I love my handheld! It takes a while to get used to it but after you do it is awesome, especially on the trials #sowhenyoufall.

I hope you make the HTC team, you would rock it!! #cheeringforyou!!!

I swear, doctors offices are HORRIBLE! Just horrible. You would think that someone would have called!? I would be upset like you. Heck, it's not me and I'm still upset for you! It's probably an easy fix whatever it is.

Now, Bruce Springsteen sounds like a great time!

As much as I love being a Canadian...I can't say things are really much better. Last time I needed an appt, they told me I couldn't book the day before but had to wait the day OF and hope I get in. Really?
Bite me. :)

Hope all goes well!

Ugh, this sounds like a rough week. The whole medical thing S-U-C-K-S, but I hope you will be surprised and find a good specialist fast. And that your race this weekend is a PR. And that you get on the relay team!

And I'm very glad that no matter what else happens you get to see Bruce Springsteen!

Sorry to hear about the waiting and doctors...in January when I first started having serious digestive problems I made an appointment with a specialist...still waiting! It's not until May!
I hope nuun picks you (and me!) and we have a chance to meet!

I bought a similar bottle at Target this week, but I like the large pocket on your better. I might have to exchange it. Good luck on Sunday!!

How frustrating! If you were in CO I'd get you all hooked up. I'm hypo too, you are already doing a lot of good things by being is such great shape, trust me!!
I was going to pick up one of those Nathans - just the intel I needed!

Sorry to read this about the doctor ... I hate waiting on results! I'm sure this will all turn out not to be anything too serious. I know so many with thyroid issues and they all seem to manage it well!

Regarding the hand held, I only use hand helds. Well, if I ever train for a full I may have to appreciate a belt. But, I have yet to warm up to the belt. You may end up liking the handheld better :-) I use the Amphipod hand helds and also a light weight Amphipod belt (no water) but just for holding extra gels or so if I need them. I also use a small Fuel hand held but that one often leaks. I've been wanting to try the Nathan one so I'll be curious to see your results!

1. The doctor. He must call you. His behavior is not professional. Here we also have to wait weeks to get an appointment with a specialist (public health service) but if you pay you don't wait. I have an insurance, part of my job contract, so I get the refund.
2. Springsteen. Great show. I saw him 3 times in Rome. Next june he will come to Florence but I don't know if I go.
3. Heat. Don't you have a path with fountain not to bring the water with you?
4. I hope you feel good and you can run a good race.

Oh I am SO impatient.......I don't blame you for being nervous about the thyroid stuff, I would be going crazy at this point!

Best of luck with your race today :) Hope it's not too hot!!
