The Boss {and running sick sucks}

Friday night I went to see Bruce Springsteen in concert for the first time.  I have almost all of his Cds and he was my dream concert.  We went to Los Angeles in the Friday afternoon traffic...fun times.  Got to the LA Memorial Coliseum where the arena is.  It is there that the 1984 Los Angeles game were held and it is there that that Joan Benoit made her entrance in the stadium on her way to Olympic Gold.  The Coliseum is the only stadium to have hosted the Games twice in 1932 ans 1984.

So OK back to BRUUUUUUUUCE.   We went in to find our seats and the crew was still setting the stage and then without any announcement or anything there he was, Bruce Springsteen!  All the lights were on and he just came on the stage with some relatives.  Then, he grabbed an acoustic guitar and started singing a song!  I had never seen this!  The main artist coming out 45 min before the show to say hello and sing a tune!  I thought it was awesome!  This is when he came out.  He sang "For you" from his very first album.

There is a reason he is THE BOSS.  He played 3h25!  He is a beast.  He played 25 songs, old and new ones.  He went in the crowd a few times, he even did some "crowd bodysurfing".  He is in top shape you could never tell he is 62 years old.  He has a band of 16 musicians with him on stage.  It was a GREAT concert.  I waited over 25 yrs to see him and it was worth the wait.
This gives an idea of the concert

What is your dream concert?

Running:
Well this was a crappy week.  I have been sick and I am still sick.  I cannot get rid of this cold.  Now it is in my chest.  I am not coughing A LOT but I always feel like I have to cough.  Today I had 9 miles on the plan but I only did 6.   I know about the neck rule.  This cold has moved below the neck line.  I have a 10K race on Sunday so I am hoping to be much better by then.
Do you follow the neck rule?  Honestly do you? Or do you cheat a little until it gets really bad like coughing all night bad?

Sounds like a sweet concert!! I'm honestly not sure about a dream concert for me. The last one I went to was the Wiggles, and I had a blast! I always cheat with running while sick. Good luck with getting better!

That concert sounds like a blast...being sick not so much. When I feel sick I just don't run. Rules schmules. Whatever. If I feel like crap, I rest.

Hope you kick that illness to the curb super soon!

Concert sounds great. Feel better.

That is a LONG concert. Way to go Bruce! (and glad you got to see your dream concert)

I often have no choice but to follow the below the neck rule. If I try to run when my chest is congested I end up in a world of hurt. (probably due to my asthma) I hope you feel better soon!

Oh wow, girl. I hope you feel better soon.

I live in Jersey. So it's pretty much a requirement to see Bruce in concert at Giant's Stadium at least twice in your life. I like him.

My twin sister? loooooooves him. Has probably seen him in concert no less than 40 times. She even will go see his "tribute" bands. All things Bruce remind me of my sister. ;0) one of the reasons I love "Born To Run" on every running playlist.

So fun about the concert and getting to live your long-time dream!!! I've never seen Bruce in concert (honestly, I rarely go to concerts because I get extreme headaches :( ) but I bet it was amazing.

Hope you're feeling better soon!!!

I'm so sorry you are still sick--you definitely need some easy down time. I usually follow the neck rule, but lately I think I need to just rest when I'm starting to get sick. With kids it's just one thing after another.

i hope you feel better soon! my kids and i all have a cold - blah - but it is not terrible. mostly nasal congestion and watery eyes for me. i went for a 6 mile run this morning and it felt so good to run, but now i rrreeeeally want a nap and that just isn't going to happen.
and bruuuuuce!! so lucky! i would love to see him in concert. i love live music oh so much and there are a LOT of concerts i would like to go to. i think paul mccartney would be close to the top of that list right now - never seen him live before and i think t would be amazing! the list is long though :)

Yay for The Boss! I saw him in concert 10+ years ago and it was awesome--yes he goes long!
Glad you enjoyed. Hope you feel better fast. Gunk on the chest is no fun.

Dream concert...I'm so lame...I'd mostly rather just listen at home. I'm not a big fan of crowds or the people in them. (do you hear my crotchety old lady voice and envision me whacking whippersnappers with my cane? Sigh...)

If I'm sick, I typically won't run. That's largely because if I go run I can't get away with being sick when I get home. :)

I do agree to the neck rule. I just had a bronchitis and didn't run for 2 weeks!! It was tough! But I waited until my cough was completely gone before I started to run again. Better safe than sorry!

Sending you healing thoughts!!!

Wow, that's amazing that he was surfing in the crowd, that's impressive for a 62 year old!!

I hope you feel better asap! I usually just skip running when I'm feeling sick because I want to give my body as much of a chance as I can to get better, I'm such a wimp!!

Springsteen is always a big draw at Jazz Fest every year but I haven't heard him... Jazz Fest tickets are $65 now. Absurd.

I definitely cheat on the neck thing...

Springsteen is awesome! I bet he was fully worth the wait.

Hai, new to your blog. What catched my eye on MissZippy's blog was "Bruce" under your comment.

I live in Holland and my husband and I are huge Bruce Springsteen fans. I've seen 10 concerts, hub has 1 more under his belt. We try to go to every concert he gives in Holland but this year will be the first we pass one because we don't like where he plays. Instead we will go to Florence, Italy for his concert in June.

I've read on FB about his "For you" performance and hub and I talked about it this weekend how cool it would be if that would happen to us and you just were there: AWESOME!

Think I'm going to stick around your blog because it's always nice to meet another Bruce fan and I see you don't run that many years, just like me.

I think more musicians should take notes! Not just give some standard show! People pay A LOT of money for tickets and to get the standard sucks. Plus, some shows are wayyy to short and it seems like the opening act is the main event! Bruce Springsteen is def THE BOSS! I'm so jealous you got to go!!

I sometimes ignore the neck rule. If I do, I always slow down. I keep everything to a jog till I get better and clear up :)

I still find it amusing that I was getting up for a race and you were getting home from the concert

The best concerts I have ever seen were performed by Bruce Springsteen. Always not less than 2 and half hour of "pure fire". Bryan Ferry (front leader of the Roxy Music) does great and long concerts too.
Glad you spent a wonderful night of music.
