Probably not going to be the most upbeat post...so I apologize....
So if you read my posts you know my husband lost his job in September and I have been pretty stressed out and worried because of this.
I am exhausted..I am ready for good news.....
Well I am not getting that this week....
First: PF is back...what PF? Peter Fonda? No....Peter Faccillini? No again...
PLANTAR FASCIITIS that is the PF.
And of course it is race week. To make it just perfect.
I am already not well prepared. I am tired. I have not been doing the long runs I should have done. Not one in the double digit since RnR Los Angeles. My groin is still bothering me and that is why I have kept the mileage lower.
The course is not easy. It is hilly. But I liked that race last year and I am looking forward to running it again. I remember telling Bill that I would probably do terrible and I ended up with a PR. Now I am pretty sure I will not PR this Sunday but that is OK.
Today the bad news continued....I had a dentist appointment for a CLEANING..that was supposed to take 40 minutes max....
Right....
So I was in the dentist's chair for almost 4 hours.....
4 freaking hours....
Turns out my x-rays showed 3 broken teeth. All at the very back of my mouth. (I have all 32 of my teeth) and 2 of them next to each other. Dentist, who is so so nice, told me that those 2 HAD to be fixed. I thought it meant to fix the filling I already had but when the $$ lady came in to explain the choices and the cost she said I needed CROWNS.
CROWNS are expensive...like over $600 a piece expensive.... I told the dentist I would have to wait and I asked how long I had before it got really bad and she said days....
GREAT GREAT....
So not a good time to have a $1200 dentist bill right now...
So I did what all normal adult would do. I cried. At the Dentist. Yep.
And I got 2 crowns and that is SO fun....
Aouchy..I am in a lot of pain now...and because of my awesome stomach I cannot take Motrin the help with that.
When it rains, it pours..it is so true.
On the brighter side..I did find some Holiday Socks for my Half Marathon...
What do you do when you wear non running socks for a special race..do you double on the socks? Do you cut the feet part of these and wear your usual running socks? Those are thin and I am afraid I will end up with nice blisters...
Also on the brighter side...we also went to see THE MAN in the red suit.
No line...so Santa took his time and he read everything that was on the list; LEGO, LEGO and more LEGO.
8 yrs in a row going to the same one....well I mean the REAL one of course.
This is where he hangs out in case you need to see him
And this is Will looking at the beautiful tree we have at our mall:
And I leave you with these pictures taken at last Saturday soccer game because after this crappy day it made me smile to find them on my camera when I uploaded the pictures earlier.

Sorry about the crowns. I would have done the same thing...:(
Those are some cute socks! For racing, I don't know what I'd do...I usually don't dress that cute though, I like the idea of wearing running socks and having the cute socks like a sleeve.
Your boys are adorable! Mine want lego too...and nerf.
Bad things aren't supposed to happen to such nice people :( I'm so sorry Caroline. That just sucks. Dental work is bad enough, but the cost can be insane. Just take it super easy at your half and try to have fun.
Glad to see in spite of it all you are still able to find some Holiday spirit. I love all your pics!!
Hope today is much better!
I'm so sorry!!! I totally understand the crying at the dentist and I'm sure your dentist understands too. It's just not fair! Love the pictures, you have a wonderful family.
I'm sorry about the PF and crowns! Ugh, it does pour...poor thing. Get better soon.
Crowns are no fun! Especially with the bill that comes along with them -- thinking of you.
Your boys are adorable! And I just love Victoria Gardens, mostly when they do it up for the holidays. So beautiful.
Good luck this weekend!
I'm so sorry - what a stressful time for you! I hope things are looking up for you all soon.
But! Your kids are beautiful - what great pictures!
I bought and wore holiday knee socks yesterday for a race. I wore my regular running socks underneath them (like you said, mine were very thin too) and I had zero issues.
Try the Pro Foot PF insoles. You can get them on ebay for about $15. They were utterly brilliant on my PF which went away within a week or so (mainly) and then about two to three weeks (forever) and has never come back since. I'm a total convert! And they're cheaper than crowns ;)
I'm sorry things are so tough right now. I would have cried at the dentist too. Re the PF, I have a compression sock I wear when it flares up and that seems to keep it at bay. It's by Feetures (who make socks I love). Good luck this weekend and your bous are so adorable!
Sorry to hear all of this Caroline. I will be adding you to my prayers and hoping things work out. I have had ITB stuff on my left leg, same leg I had hamstring stuff, since my marathon. All these aches started when I turned 37. I totally blame it on aging. LOL!! As for the crown, you may like your dentist but trust we you can probably hold off. The dentist wants to make money too. I am not a fan of the dentists. In fact with fillings I am a down right wimp. So I have a crown I need on a tooth in the back of my mouth I chipped 6 years ago. I found out last year it needs a crown, but have been so busy (ie. freaked out) to get it done yet. So in the new year I am getting it done for sure. It has, knock on wood, held out okay.;)
Sorry things are rough right now, C :(.
With the socks, for a half, they don't really bother me. For CIM, I cut the feet off and wore them as just calf sleeves, with my regular socks on.
I'll be sending some positive thoughts your way. Unexpected bills at the worst time are horrible :(
But, the pic of your little one kissing you is a freaking fantastic picture! Still so much good in your life :)
I am sending as much positive vibes I can for things to turn around, hold you head high
Maybe hockey will be returning soon
Good luck at the race
$1200 for 2 teeth!! my goodness. hopefully insurance helped a bit?
LOVE LOVE LOVE your mall christmas tree
Ugh, that stinks. :( My husband has had sooo many dental issues. You could buy a decent used car with what we've spent at the dentist. Well, if you combine what we've spent with what we OWE. Bad, bad.
I hope things brighten up for you, and the pictures of your kids are definitely bright spots. Hang in there friend!
Sorry about the dentist bills. I don't have dental insurance either, and luckily I have only had regular checkups to pay for usually. Hopefully your husband finds a job soon. I hope things start to turn around for you in general.
I saw that Duke is doing well in bball, maybe they can win the national title.
For PF, that is one injury that I've never had before. Though I think some people took a frozen water bottle and rolled it below their foot, or a golf ball.
I'm so sorry that things are pouring for you right now. I hope that when the sun comes out, it shines brightly...for a long time.
I have to say - outdoor pictures in front of Christmas trees when people are in short sleeves and no coats will always look strange to me.
I hope the rain in your life stops soon and the sun comes out! I guess it's good that the dentist found the problems--not good to have the problems, but at least you didn't have days of pain before it got fixed). I have all 32 of my teeth, too--I kind of wished they'd taken the wisdom teeth out when I was younger, but no way I want that surgery now!
I'm glad your boys are bringing you so much joy. They seem like such good kids--the picture of them reading warms my librarian heart.
Continued good thoughts for your husband, too. Meanwhile, remember what Winston Churchill said: When you're going through hell, keep going! (And I'm not talking about your half--just go SLOW and let it be FUN.)
You are right about that! When it rains it pours! Sorry that you had to pay that big dentist bill! As far as the running issues, I think you really should consider a break with no running at all and just let those issue heal themselves. I have learned through personal experience that that is the only way for your body to heal. It sucks but it will help you. The boys are just as cute as ever! I love the tree at VG too!
Ok, I'm laughing right now. When my husband was unemployed last year ... long story short, I'm still paying off the 1200 dentist bill. I'm just so glad someone else has bad luck like me. I'm really sorry, though! I do hope things start looking up for you! And have fun at your race this weekend! Congrats on the pictures of the boys!
Oh, no! I've never dealt with pf, but injuries of any kind make me grumpy, not to mention everything else you're dealing with. The socks are cute!
:( So sorry to read this blog post and for what you have going on. On a positive, assuming you know about it ... I saw your Twitter handle made the January 2013 Runner's World magazing in an article. :)
Sorry to hear about the Plantar, I had it bad last fall and its trying to start again. The only PF I want to see is PF Chang's!
So sorry to hear about the dentist's bill ... in Italy crowns are expensive too. Consequently a lot of Italian people, who need crowns, go abroad in Eastern Europe. For instance, Romanian dentists are cheaper than Italian ones: more than 60 per cent less!
Beautiful pictures of the kids! Have a nice week!
:( so sorry about the crowns! i am hoping the dentist worked out some sort of plan for you. your boys are adorable. i love the pics with santa!
dohhh i have a number of crowns due to some kind of bad "acid" in my mouth and I cried every single time the dentist told me I needed one. It's so silly, but I was like I take care of my teeth and that's too much money! :) Sorrrrry you are dealing with that and PF, oye!
