Some news...bad and good

So I have news...it is not all good...

When someone says "I have good news and bad news"
Do you like to have the good one first or last?

I like to get the good one first.

So if you are a regular reader of my little blog (thank you) you know that I tend to have GI issues during my races and dry heaves are usually part of the end of all my races.

I have a collection of really unflattering race photos...like this one...

(Clearly I have no big ego for posting this again)

Oiselle had this contest on Friday asking people to share their most horrifying, gutsy, grimacing race day photo for #painfest.  I thought this one was perfect and I sent it. I knew they would announce the winners today so I put on my orange shirt for good "Oiselle Karma".

Well I won!
Who would have thought that this horrible picture would lead to winning a really great prize!  Beautiful Oiselle running clothes coming my way! I will put pictures when I receive my package!  I cannot wait!

So that is my good news.
It came at a really good time..because...

Yesterday I made a hard decision.
I went for my 8 miles run and I thought about a lot of things but mainly Big Sur.

It's what is next on my race schedule.  Big Sur Half Marathon.
We had planned on making this a small family trip and staying 2 nights in Big Sur.  I was really looking forward to this one.  I have had a picture of Big Sur on my fridge for 2 years now.  But it is not going to happen for me this year.  It is a long ride to get there and with the hotel and everything it would not be right to spend all that $ just so I can run a race.  I was hoping that Bill would have had found a new job before Big Sur but we are not there yet.  It is what it is.  It breaks my running heart and I am sad and disappointed but the Holidays are right around the corner and I want my kids to have a nice Christmas.  That is more important.  So I decided to let Big Sur go :(  for this year,  not forever.

I probably will not be in the best of mood on November 18 so feel free to tweet me some jokes that day OK...

I think that I will run the Mission Inn 10K this coming Sunday.  It is a local race that I have done the last 2 years and they have same day registration for same price.

So this is what's new around here.  Some good and some bad...

Congrats on the the win for a bad pic! That's awesome :)

So sorry about your race this weekend. I know you are disappointed, but like you said for your family right now I'm sure it's the best idea. The race isn't going anywhere. There is always next year! Have fun at your local race this weekend!!

I'm sad for you about Big Sur. :( But like Michael said, they will have one just like it next year! And I bet it'll be even prettier then. ;)

Congrats on your win! That photo is pretty bad! LOL.

I'm so sorry about Big Sur, but you made the right decision. Kids come first! Big Sur will be there next year.

Congrats on winning even though the photo is not one of your greatest moments :) Sorry about Big Sur but you know what is best right now and you are thinking of your kids. You are a great mom! I was also considering the Mission Inn 10K but I am just starting to get back into pain free running and probably won't do it :(

I can't wait to see a picture of you sporting your Oiselle race day kit!! You will rock it! (Also the Distance shorts are A-mazing!). Sorry to hear about Big Sur. It WILL happen for you. When the time is right, you will run that race!

Congratulations on the Oiselle kit!! That's fantastic, that picture is hilarious/awful.

I'm sorry about Big Sur. I know it had to be a tough decision for you :(.

Congratulations on winning the contest!! That picture is way too funny!

I'm sorry that you won't be able to go on your running trip but you only have so many Christmases with your kids, you will have many opportunities to run races. You're a good mom who made an unselfish choice. *hugs*

ugh - you know i am not a stranger to gi issues - so sorry for you! i am happy though that the pic led to such awesome news and a great prize for you!! so cool! always a silver lining, right?

and i know it is HARD to change your mind about a race, but of course we always have to do what's best for us/our families and that sometimes means deciding against things a part of you REALLY wants. i am not a stranger to that, either.

some day i want to do big sur too - it is on my bucket list! such a beautiful place.

xoxo

congrats on the win!! free stuff rocks!

so sorry about Big Sur. but next year? it will be amazing :)

(you are a good mama!)

Yay for free stuff. And I agree that it would've been a tough decision, but certainly sounds like the right one. I think you even wrote on the Long Beach one that you felt bad staying in a hotel, but you had already booked it, so it was too late. I'm guessing that feeling would've been the same x many more.
I'm flat broke too, so I get it :(

Hurray for the fun win from Oiselle. And good for you for making the tough but unselfish decision to have a nice family Christmas instead of your running Big Sur. I bet you wouldn't have enjoyed it this year anyway.

Your time will come, and you will ROCK it then. :)

You made a lovely, loving decision. You won't regret it, even on Nov 18th. Sad for you though.

But yippeee for winning Oiselle because of that hilarious photo!!! You made me giggle...thanks.

I still need to run a race in CA and was thinking about doing Big Sur Half Marathon next year. So, the good news: We can run it together!! What do you think??

I'm sorry to hear that Big Sur won't be happening for you this year and I know the circumstances make missing a race even worse than missing a race usually is. My hope is that you will be able to take a beautiful trip there with your family next year or the one after that.

I'm SO glad you won the Oiselle clothing!! It's beautiful stuff and you deserve it.

haha on the Oiselle race photo contest!

As for Big Sur, they also have a race in May, so you could always do the trip then. That is a bummer that you aren't doing it now then, that area is gorgeous.

I am so sorry about Big Sur. I know how much you were looking forward to it. This really shows how kind, and what a selfless mother and spouse you are-they are incredibly lucky to have you. :) i hope they will let you defer to next year so you don’t lose any additional money. and congrats on the oiselle winnings! i entered too-but yours totally rocks!

I'm really sorry about the Big Sur, I had so make many calls like that when we were in that predicament and it is heartbreaking....but in the big scheme of things, Big Sur isn't going away and will be there waiting for you when your family is ready! :)

Congrats on the win...that is really cool (even if you were puking to win it :)). Their clothes ROCK!!

bummer about big sur but at least you have the brains and maturity to think about the situation and make the best decision for your family! (i have encountered too many people who either can't / don't want to actually have to think things through and end up in financial trouble...) it will be there for you next year!

and in the meantime you get a bunch of cute oiselle stuff! that is sweet!
