HAPPY NATIONAL RUNNING DAY!

HAPPY NATIONAL RUNNING DAY!

I say this with a heavy heart.
I wish today was the day of my comeback.

I saw the PT Monday.
I asked my usual 104 questions.
One of those being : "what is the estimate day of my first run?"
PT....silence
Me "don't pretend you did not hear me"
PT "OK OK....hmmm next week...maybe one mile"
ME " You said that LAST week"
PT "we cannot rush this..."

She is a runner. She is young and dedicated. I like her. I decide to trust her.
She said I cannot run until I feel at least 80% better with the orthotics.
I could lie and say I am at 80%.
I am not.
It is hard to put a % and evaluate this.
I know it is not 80.
But it is at least 50.
Progress.
She said OK for power walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes.
30 minutes....that's how long it takes to sweat......
Well now that I am loosing fitness every time I blink my eyes maybe I will sweat within 5 minutes...

I noticed that this week I feel worst than I did while I was in DC.
During my trip we would walk all day.  7-8 miles per day.
I felt sore at the end of the day but I did not have pain in my knee.  I was sore in my right hip.  I had zero IT band pain while we were there.
This week...no more crazy walking and I have more pain in both my knee and my IT band.

I am thinking I need to walk more.
Or move to Washington DC.

Happy very important day to all of you.
Go out and run a mile for me.

DC posts coming up your way.

Here's a couple pics from our trip:

Ugh the dreaded "when can I run" conversation. I had that many, many, many times over the course of 9 months back in 2011. It never got any easier to hear what I DIDN'T want them to say either. But, eventually you will get cleared and my best advice to you is to just trust them and listen to your body. It's better to step back and take the time you need to heal then to have to start over with the whole process again because you were too stubborn to just rest. My current stress fracture took 8 weeks to heal, that's 28 weeks sooner than the last one and all because this time I just embraced the sidelines so I could get back out on the road quicker.

Glad to see that you're making progress! That's great! Slow and steady wins the race... Or in this case heals the injury and makes you stronger! Hang in there!

I may have asked this before, but do you have access to a pool to aqua jog? What about cycling?

So, glad to know you have the orthodics! The walking is actually very good- it uses muscles we forget with running.

I hope you can get the OK soon! I didn't run a mile for you, but enjoyed a few on the bike.

Hang in there Caroline! As you know I am injured too and feel like I am totally missing out on my tri season...but I keep telling myself (and maybe this will help you too) it's really just a "blip" in the big scheme of things. When I look back over my "running/triathlon career" will I say remember that one summer when I missed 2 or 3 triathlons....no, I'll think about ALL the great times and events I was able to do. It's just a short pause. that's all!

I did not run either because my son was not feeling well. I know how hard it is to be patient but it will pay off in the end. Having been injured myself, I don't take any chances anymore so you are doing everything right. Take care and NO you cannot move to DC!

Not running sucks, having other people who know what you are feeling helps a little though. Hugs, it will happen!

Ouf! Je penses très fort à toi chère Caroline...comme je te comprends. Quand on est blessée, on a l'impression qu'on ne s'en sortira jamais. Mais, tu verras, tu vas t'en sortir et revenir en force!!! Câlin ((()))

Those are awesome DC pics, fun to read your last post about DC too. Awesome place to visit - I went there in 2003 and the World War II memorial wasn't up yet.

For PT - I know exactly what you mean. I know it is hard, but I would just try to follow exactly what they say. The first time I got injured in 2011 I asked the question a lot about running, but this time around I know the drill, so I don't ask any questions about when to run and just let the PT person tell me what to do. It's weird, but I feel that it takes someone getting injured twice to really understand and be able to relax and follow exactly what is needed to try and get healthy. Not sure why, but my mind was so obsessed with getting back out there as soon as possible in 2011, and this time around I'm okay with doing whatever the PT person says that I should do.
