Lost of a Childhood Idol.

I was in the middle of writing another post when I saw the news that Gary Carter passed away today.  When I was a kid I had a few idols; Wayne Gretzky, Terry Fox, Alex Baumann (Greatest Canadian Swimmer, superstar of 1984 LA Games), Larry Bird and Gary Carter.

He was only 57 years old.
He did not win his war against brain CANCER.

Breaks my heart that he is gone, so sad.
He was a baseball LEGEND.
As you know I am from Quebec, Canada.  Baseball was never the number 1 sport there, nothing can take the place of Hockey, but we did have a team called The Montreal Expos until 2004.
From 1974 to 1984 Gary Carter WAS The Expos
Number 8.
The Kid.

With Andre Dawson and Tim Raines

He played 19 years in the MLB, 10 of them were in Montreal and 5 great ones were with the METS...with them, he won the World Series in 1986.

I was not a huge baseball fan..not like I am a fan a Duke basketball or a hockey fan but...I was a huge fan of Gary Carter.  He had this bigger than life personality and he was fun to watch.    You could tell he LOVED to play..not just for the $$.   I remember when I was a kid, he made me want to go see games at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal and made me want to watch baseball on TV.

Goodbye THE KID

Some of my best childhood memories are going to see the Expos with my Dad...I was a HUGE Gary Carter fan... I may have had just a teensy crush on him and posters in my bedroom ;).

So Sad :(

I am still floored by this. It hurts to see that a childhood idol of mine has gone.

I think its crazy that you are a Duke fan, and Gary Carter fan as well. Seriously what are the odds.

BTW I believe that is Tim Raines in that photo with The Kid and Hawk. Warren Cromartie wouldn't warrant getting in that photo with those two.

I was so sad to hear about this. I was in French immersion and still remember our teacher letting us watch the Expos when they were in a playoff run. (and laughing at all the ads that were in French as we had never seen that before)

I have been a NY Mets fan for years (I am from LI, NY) and Gary Carter was one of my favorite players. I can still remember 1986 World Series vividly. So sad that he is gone :(

Growing up in Boston the Expos were my National League team. Because I hated the Mets and the Phillies.

Sorry to see Gary gone...

I didn't know him and I don't follow baseball but this is a sad news. Ciao The Kid.
