HILL VS SPEED

I need more time! More hours in the day!
I have so much crap to do and so little time.
I am behind on commenting on your blogs...I did read them though..:)
Every year I lead the Christmas Card Exchange over at this guy's fan club.

I took that picture at the LA concert

It is a lot of fun to do this but to take care of the exchange not all fun. Lots of people and they all have crazy requests...it is driving me nuts! Some want short lists, some want long lists and some want only Americans (it is so hard to figure out the postage for Canada!!).  We get all these cards with pics of KU and the boys make a huge collage with them!

I am on The annual Christmas shopping mission.
I HATE shopping.
I have to take care of my family's presents now so I can ship everything so that it is there on time!

RUNNING:

Last week
Mon 3 miles easy
Tue 4 miles tempo
Wed: wasted my time at the Dr
Thu: 5 miles
Fri: REST
Sat: 3 miles
Sun: 8 miles
total: 23 miles

I finished October with 95 miles.  Last 3 mos have been pretty good: 120-111 and 95 miles.

My next 2 races will be Mission Inn 10k in 2 weeks and the Holiday half marathon on December 11.
Both of these have hilly courses.
The 10k was my first 10k race ever and I am returning to beat the crappy time I had a year ago.  I almost wish I had signed up for the Half Marathon there because all the hills are in the 10K course and the second part of the half is nice.

Now I am wondering if I should do HILLS workout instead of my SPEEDWORK.
I do struggle in hills.  I have a hard time keeping a decent pace going up.

I have been working on a couple of things

1. Forget about Long Beach
2. Run my shorter runs (3 to 6 miles) faster
3. Relax my shoulders...tend to be too high.

Kids were off Monday...Halloween is a Holiday did you know that? I am kidding but they were off for real. So they did a few puzzles..Maggie was not impressed.

And we went to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach.  It was a great day! I love Long Beach.

Will making friends with a Stingray

He loved the sharks!

We found NEMO!!!!

Playing rock-paper-scissor with the diver

Had to include some running!

They went up and down and up and down and up and down!

Thank you for the comments on my last post you guys are the best!!

What a great day! I love aquariums, especially the 'petting pools' and the otters. I loooove seas otters.

Long Beach is such a neat place. So many fun things to do there.

Those are some great pictures. If schools were smart, they'd have a holiday the day AFTER Halloween when the kids are all either mid-sugar coma or mid-sugar high.

Yeah, definitely spend some time on the hills. Do you have an easy run day where you could run easy on the hills? I'm no trainer, maybe that's a stupid idea. I don't like to put any pressure on myself on hills other than just. keep. moving.

All you early Christmas shoppers are so smart. I'll be out Christmas week hating myself, stores, and the people I'm buying for. :-/

Our school district had Halloween off too. I think the powers did that on purpose.

Good luck in your 10k, you will crush it!

Hills hurt me! Literally, I am usually very sore after hills and I try not to run them too much unless I have a hilly marathon coming up. Great pics of the little guys!!! Hey, I've been mean to ask you ... do you like KU's early stuff when he was with The Ranch. I have on of their albums - it's really dated, but still not bad. Just curious. Have a good one!

Man, I want to come play with you guys when I get a day off! :)

Ugh... I'm so bad at hills. My only suggestion is to run hills because a.) you'll get better at them and b.) you'll end up getting faster! :)

Oh your day with your kids looks so fun. And you got some great pictures. I am not usually interested in animal pics but the one of the unhatched shark...too cool! I would say that some hill work is good to help prevent injury and strengthen your legs. :)
